I am a professor and as part of my research and teaching duties, I have visited many countries such as Italy, England, France, Germany, Holland, Japan, Korea and India very often, attending conferences, conducting research campaigns and delivering invited seminars at universities. In the year 2000, I visited Japan with my family and at that time, these Bidet-type toilets were just being introduced. In the Orient and in Europe, it is normal to use water for cleansing and not toilet paper, since it is regarded as more hygienic. Now you can find such toilets almost everywhere in japan. Anyway, we decided that we would get these Japanese toilets for our home. Unfortunately, there were no nearby electrical outlets and the expense of installing them and the Japanese toilets themselves made us wait. But this year, we had a new house built for us and we made sure all bath rooms have electrical outlets near the toilet. Then we looked around for a suitable unit. This product fit our needs best. It was relatively inexpensive and very easy to install myself. It has all the features we wanted, especially sterilization, except perhaps automatic lid closing. It is closest to what I find in four and five star hotels in Japan during my visits. It has the additional convenience of a remote unit to operate the toilet (Japanese toilets have this built into the side of the toilet and it is often quite awkward to bend, read and push appropriate buttons). We also bought a unit for our sons' new house as well. It has been a month now and so far so good. The units look classy and have worked very well. This bidet does everything unequivocally well. And even though price was no object (no, I'm not rich) and I really wanted one with an auto-open feature, I selected it over the higher-priced Toto and Novita models because it had the absolute best balance of feature set, industry reputation, and, the remote was so much cleaner than the Toto, which frankly I couldn't understanding looking at it. This bidet does everything unequivocally well. And even though price was no object (no, I'm not rich) and I really wanted one with an auto-open feature, I selected it over the higher-priced Toto and Novita models because it had the absolute best balance of feature set, industry reputation, and, the remote was so much cleaner than the Toto, which frankly I couldn't understanding looking at it. In other words, the Brondell's remote was very intuitive. Also, there were very few seats you could sit on, and this was one of them. There are several functions I completely enjoy with the 1400. First and foremost is the spray is plenty powerful even though some reviews feel a few other bidets are more powerful. Hey, I'm washing my OWN backside, not that of an elephant's! I've actually turned DOWN the intensity. Undoubtedly, there's a perfect setting for you as well. The width sprayer is nice similarly. I don't care for one smallish pinpoint stream, and widening it is much more comfortable. The best feature -- admittedly on most nicer bidets is the oscillating feature. Do NOT purchase ANY bidet without this. You feel 10 times cleaner than with a single stream pointed at one place making YOU have to move instead of the nozzles. The dryer, like most I've heard is what I'd rate as only adequate. Dab with a few sheets of toilet paper first, THEN use the dryer. You COULD use only the dryer but you'd have to have it on for two minutes or so. The way you can adjust, and the feeling for, the warmth of the seat, water, and dryer are all excellent. Dial in your preferences then save it to one of two user presets. I do however believe the 2-minute spray time is about 100% too much. One one minute should be plenty (unless you ate some REALLY bad chili, haha). However, not to worry, you can simply press "stop" at any time. I DID purchase the smaller round seat, and I would say it is "compact." But even for a big guy (yup, in several ways) like me, it's fine. If Brondell only made this with an auto-open function, it would completely hit it out of the ballpark. As for BidetKing, I was extremely happy with the price I got, their service and prompt delivery.
