Yes, you can sit on the closed seat. We understand that it will support 300 lbs. The controls and instruction manual are easy to understand and are perfect. Remote contract has large display -Could be used by your feet if hands were unavailable. LED night light - bright and very visible. Soft close lid. No Bang in the middle of the night. Recommended by Occupational Therapist and ADA and others. An additional note. Presently we are using an extension cord to our bathroom GFI. But recommend that you have GFI installed. 30 day return Customer Support - while we have not used this other reports it is excellent. Cons: Cleaning action - we are still adjusting to this currently. Sometimes it is perfect, other times, not so great - especially the rear clean. LED light is non-adjustable Price is high

Big tradeoffs
I replaced a Toto Washlet C5 with the Cascade because we needed a sittable lid in a small bathroom with no other place for a seat. The Cascade's sittable lid is great. In most other respects, however, the Toto is much superior engineering. In particular, odor control is weak (and can't be set to go on as a default), the water stream is not as well-directed, and the air drying is inferior. So the Cascade is just adequate, so if and when Toto decides to make a sittable lid, I'll replace this in a heartbeat.
