This model disappointed me

I had a Swash 1000 which I used for years and then we moved to a new house. The old Swash 1000 still worked after 6 years, but the toilet in the new house has an oval shape, so I decided to buy the DR 802 since the old bidet was made for a round toilet. I purchased it mainly because of the blue night light feature, since it is very dark in the new bathroom, and my old standby doesn't come with a light. I was also intrigued with the option to save settings for two users. This review is admittedly...

This review is admittedly biased, based upon my years of experience with the Swash 1000. Now on to the review. The DR802 is a disappointment in so many ways. First, it is very sluggish to respond once the function buttons are pushed. It makes a bit of a “clunk” noise, hesitates, then finally responds, whether it be “wash,” “dry,” etc. It feels as if way too much time elapses as I'm sitting there waiting for the bidet to just “get on with it.” Second, the “light touch” remote buttons are easy to accidentally push. Countless times, I have sat down to a cold seat, because either my wife or I have previously unknowingly pushed the “eco” button. This is quite frustrating. Third, it turns out that the custom settings option is very limited. I like the nozzle to oscillate, but that isn't something which can be programmed into the custom settings. Also, if your menopausal wife doesn't want the heated seat function (understandably) but you do, pushing the custom setting button as you are getting ready to sit down will still result in a cold seat, because it takes some time for the bidet to respond. The point is that the custom settings aren't as convenient as one is led to believe. Fourth, the heated water supply is quite limited compared with the Swash 1000. I run out of warm water almost every time I use the bidet, and that was never the case with the old bidet. In conclusion, after using the DR 802 for over a month, I am sorry that I purchased it. I truly wish that I had spent the extra money and purchased another Swash 1000. The responses are instantaneous, and it is far superior in nearly every way, compared to the DR 802.

See Brondell site to compare models first

Go to the Brondell website to compare their various models before choosing. There you'll find much better descriptions. I'm replacing my 5 year old Swash 300. Go to the Brondell website to compare their various models before choosing. There you'll find much better descriptions. I'm replacing my 5 year old Swash 300. Though it was disappointing that it failed in 5 short years, I chose to replace it with another Brondell as I thought at least I wouldn't have to replace the mounting hardware... Not! Here are the differences between my old 300 and this new one as I see them: The LE99 is thicker and more comfortable than my old 300. It makes my "comfort height" Toto Aquia darn near a bar stool! (I exaggerate). But for me, that's a good thing. Another positive is the "Programmable User" feature. Other differences I like are: Adjustable nozzle position, oscillating nozzle and "ECO" features. The only negative is the remote's buttons are flush, not like the raised blister buttons on the old 300's controller. Therefore I can't work them in the dark anymore. I carry a tiny flashlight at night rather that turn on the room light. The blue night light in the bowl is no help when you're sitting on it! And the blue light is apparently just that, a night light, albeit pretty cool looking. It's not, from what I've learned, an ultra-violet sanitizer; drat. Since blue light quenches ones night vision (more than would red light) as well as any melatonin, and I'd like to not wake up any more than necessary on my frequent night trips, I never turn it on. I don't use the seat warmer either, and I've found the air dryer to be way too slow to be useful. So I could have saved a few bucks had I taken my own advice and gone to the Brondell website first. But in the end, I'm pleased with my purchase and would recommend a Brondell to my friends. I strongly recommend a bidet for elderly or physically challenged folks like myself. Well, for anybody actually!
